A Stark Life
Nyaungshwe, Myanmar
A young boy washes dishes in the kitchen of a very primitive restaurant in the remote countryside of central Myanmar. In rural areas such as this, there is often no access to education and children are forced to work as a means of supporting themselves. It will undoubtedly be a long hard life, not unlike that for those on the other side of the globe, performing the backbreaking and poorly remunerated work of salt extraction in the salt mines of Madras, Peru. With few opportunities to escape an existence of subsistence living, the picture for this boy’s future is bleak.
